Right of reply

Any government, embassy or other party named in an event of the index can reply to it. The reply is published verbatim on the country page within 10 days of receipt, in its original language with a translation, and the answer of the index is shown beneath it.

How to submit a reply

The form asks for the country, the ids of the events contested (each event card shows its id), the text to publish, its language, and the capacity in which it is sent. The form is public: the reply and the exchange that follows can be read by anyone, and a GitHub account is needed to submit it.

What happens next

1. The 10 days run from the day the reply is received.
2. The events the reply contests are marked disputed (confidence weight 0.4) until the matter is resolved; their cards say so in one line.
3. The reply is published on the country page, verbatim, in its original language with a translation, with the answer of the index beneath it.
4. The matter is resolved in one of three ways: a correction of the event, its retraction, or a rejection with the reasons written out. A correction or a retraction is listed on the Corrections page, and nothing is deleted: a retracted event stays in the record, marked retracted, and no longer scores.

Errors and new information

Anyone, not only a government, can report an error in an event through the form "Report an error"; it is handled as a correction, not as a reply. Information about an act the index has not recorded can be sent through the form "Submit a lead". A lead is never scored: it is researched, and becomes an event only with a primary document, archived.
